Nice to see some familiar faces being nominated for this years BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards (full listing here). Last year I mentored on several films at Edinburgh College of Art and three have been nominated – ‘Just To Call You Dad’ by Patricia Delso (watch clip), ‘Maria’s Way’ by Anne Milne (watch clip), both in the Factual category, and ‘Talking Piranhas’ by Gregory Vardarinos (website) in the Fiction category . I haven’t seen the finished versions of ‘Maria’s Way or ‘Talking Piranhas’ but I do have a copy of ‘Just To Call You Dad’ – it’s a beautifully poetic, brave and layered film and has a powerful effect on the viewer.
Nice to also see Hope Dickson Leach in the Fiction category with ‘Parliamo Glasgow’ (review). I caught up with Hope at Cucalorus Film Festival in Wilmington, North Carolina. Hope was out there with her film ‘Morning Echo’ (blog) which has been doing really well, but more importantly, she was the winner of musical chairs.
Which meant I was a bear with a sore head:
Also good to see Marc DeLaunay nominated for directing ‘Dark Nature’.
Dark Nature has won two international festival awards, the HDFEST Deffie Award for Best Director of a Feature and the HDFEST Deffie Award for Best Cinematography in a Feature. You can watch a trailer here.
Best of luck to you all.
