Back from my trip to the Cucalorus Film Festival. A great time once again and even better weather than last year. Not so much film watching though as seemed to be busier with events and of course drinking beer.

Spent much time with Matt Hulse and his partner Lucy Brown. Mediated Matt’s Work in Progress for his feature project Dummy Jim. A good turnout, many of whom seemed inspired by his process of working. Other UK residents out there were Loren Slater with her short Just Before Dawn, Col Spector with his feature Honeymooner and the two lead actors from Skeletons, Ed Gaughan & Andrew Buckley.

My highlights:

Feature Documentary Roll Out, Cowboy by Elizabeth Lawrence for the laugh out loud screening attended by the Sandman himself.

Short Paper and Glass by Tessa Joosse for it’s wonderful rhythms and unexpected turning point.

The Audible Picture Show curated by Matt Hulse for something so different, an hour to sit back, listen and visualise, a truly ear-opening experience.

Thanks to Director Dan Brawley and all the staff for once again making it a special week.
